Not getting interview calls? Check these, in this order

Recruiters in India mostly find you by search, then filter by notice period, salary and location. If you fail a filter, nobody reads the rest. Start with the filters.

In short

Calls in India come two ways: a recruiter finds your profile in a search, or shortlists you from applications. Both start with filters, then keywords, and only then your resume. Check them in that order:

  • 1. The filters that end it before anyone reads
  • 2. Being found in recruiter searches
  • 3. The resume
  • 4. Where you apply
  • 5. After you apply

The filters that end it before anyone reads

Recruiters narrow a search or an applicant list with these first. Fail one and nothing else is read.

  • Notice period. Many roles are filtered to 30 or 60 days. If yours is 90 but you can negotiate or buy out part of it, say so in your profile summary and your applications.
  • Expected salary. A figure far above the band hides you from searches for that band. State a realistic number, and use "negotiable" where the form allows.
  • Location. Add every city you would genuinely work in, and say whether you would relocate or work hybrid or remote.
  • Years of experience. Keep it accurate to the month. Applying well outside a role's range is usually filtered out automatically.

The resume

Once a recruiter opens it, the first few seconds decide the rest.

  • The top third. Your target role, a two-line summary and your most relevant experience, visible without scrolling.
  • Numbers on results. "Closed month-end books in 4 days instead of 7", "built a dashboard used by 40 branch managers".
  • The posting's words. Use the same words the posting uses for the same skills, so a search and a person both see the match.
  • A plain layout. One column, standard headings, a PDF or Word file. Heavy graphics and tables can come out garbled in hiring systems.
  • One version per kind of role. Not one resume for every job.

Where you apply

The same role can be crowded in one place and quiet in another.

  • The company's career page. It feeds straight into the employer's hiring system and is often less crowded than a job board posting.
  • Within a day or two. Apply soon after a role is posted, before the shortlist fills.

This part can be automated

Jobaaj One watches 2,711 company career pages, scores each new opening against your profile, and applies for you where the score is 60 or more, with a screenshot of each application.

5

After you apply

Small follow-ups turn an application into a conversation.

  • Follow up once. About a week later, two lines to the recruiter or hiring manager: the role and why you fit.
  • Ask for referrals. From people at the companies you applied to.
  • Answer quickly. Pick up unknown numbers and reply to e-mails the same day during an active search; recruiters work down a list.
  • Track what you applied to. So you can see what gets calls and do more of it.

Questions

Why am I not getting calls from Naukri?

Most often: your profile does not match the words recruiters search for, a filter such as notice period, expected salary or location rules you out, or your profile has not been updated in a while. Fix those before rewriting your resume.

Does updating my Naukri profile help?

Recruiters sort and filter candidates, and recently active profiles are easier to find. Keep your profile current and your key skills matched to the roles you want.

Should I mention a 90-day notice period?

Be truthful. If you can negotiate or buy out part of it, say so in your profile and your applications; many recruiters filter for 30 to 60 days.
